B cells in breast milk can produce HIV-neutralizing antibodies

Antibodies that help to stop the HIV virus have been found in breast milk. Researchers at Duke University Medical Center isolated the antibodies from immune cells called B cells in the breast milk of infected mothers in Malawi, and showed that the B cells in breast milk can generate neutralizing antibodies that may inhibit the virus that causes AIDS.

Boehringer Ingelheim's VERxVE study of nevirapine meets primary endpoint

New data were presented today at the 18th International AIDS Conference from the VERxVE study that show an investigational, once-daily extended-release (400 mg QD) formulation of nevirapine was non-inferior to twice-daily immediate release Viramune® (nevirapine) tablets (200 mg BID), both in combination with Truvada® (tenofovir and emtricitabine) tablets in treatment-naive HIV-1 infected patients through 48 weeks.

UCSF scientists explore how Dact1 mutations contribute to psychiatric disorders

Gene mutations that cause cell signaling networks to go awry during embryonic development and lead to major birth defects may also cause subtle disruptions in the brain that contribute to psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, autism, and bipolar disorder, according to new research by UC San Francisco scientists.
