Scientists discover new compound that inhibits bitterness

Forest, Alkem and Torrent settle generic BYSTOLIC patent infringement litigation

Forest Laboratories, Inc. and Forest Laboratories Holdings, Ltd. announced today that they have entered into settlement agreements with Alkem Laboratories, Ltd., Indchemie Health Specialties Pvt. Ltd., and Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Torrent Pharma Inc. in patent infringement litigation brought by Forest in response to abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) filed by Alkem, Indchemie and Torrent each seeking approval to market generic versions of Forest's BYSTOLIC (nebivolol) tablets.

Lawmakers discuss plans for SCHIP reauthorization

Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) on Monday at a forum co-sponsored by the Alliance for Health Reform and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation said that Congress likely will have the ability to authorize the $50 billion over five years needed to enroll all children eligible for SCHIP but "hedged on whether it would do so this year or over the next several years," CQ HealthBeat reports.
