Specialty groups: We shouldn't have to pay to fix Medicare's physician payment formula

Doctors shouldn't have to foot the bill if Congress comes up with a new way to set their Medicare payments, a group of medical specialties said Monday. There are few policies -; if any -; that are more important to doctors' organizations than a permanent repeal of the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula.

Implantable defibrillators benefit women as much as men after heart attack

Women who have had a heart attack get as much survival benefit as men from implanted cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), devices designed to monitor the heart's pumping rhythm and shock it back to normal when needed, according to a study published in the December edition of the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology.
