SLU researcher discovers way to block pain pathway

In research published in the medical journal Brain, Saint Louis University researcher Daniela Salvemini, Ph.D. and colleagues within SLU, the National Institutes of Health and other academic institutions have discovered a way to block a pain pathway in animal models of chronic neuropathic pain including pain caused by chemotherapeutic agents and bone cancer pain suggesting a promising new approach to pain relief.

Insufficient nighttime sleep among infants may develop childhood obesity risk: Report

Insufficient amounts of nighttime sleep among infants and preschool-aged children may be a significant risk factor for developing childhood obesity, according to a report in the September issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals. Additionally, napping does not appear to be an adequate substitute for nighttime sleep in terms of preventing obesity.

Berg and University of Miami extend partnership to battle cardiac dysfunction, heart failure

Berg, a Boston-based biopharmaceutical company, and the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine are extending its collaboration to battle cardiac dysfunction and heart failure. University of Alberta researcher named winner of A.S.P.E.N.'s 2015 Harry M. Vars Award

David Lim, MD, CM, of the University of Alberta has been named the winner of the 2015 Harry M. Vars Award by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. The award is for his research on parenteral nutrition associated liver disease (PNALD) in infants, which was presented at A.S.P.E.N.'s Clinical Nutrition Week conference in Long Beach, California, February 14 to 17.
