Duke University and the University of Colorado schools of medicine have received a $10 million grant from the National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR), part of the National Institutes of Health, to continue the development of the Palliative Care Research Cooperative Group (PCRC) over the next five years.

HR status defines two different subsets of HER2 positive cancers

Human epidermal growth factor (HER2) positive breast cancers are often treated with the same therapy regardless of hormone receptor status. New research published in BioMed Central's open access journal Breast Cancer Research shows that women whose HER2 positive cancer was also hormone (estrogen and progesterone) receptor (HR) negative had an increased risk of early death, and that their cancer was less likely to recur in bone than those whose cancer retained hormone sensitivity.

FAA to issue new obstructive sleep apnea guidance for aviation medical examiners

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that it will issue new guidance for aviation medical examiners (AMEs) regarding the screening and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in commercial pilots. The new guidance, which hopes to treat pilots fairly while at the same time increasing aviation safety, was created and approved with input from the industry, Congress, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
