EORTC, GIMEMA clinical trial results show high-dose cytarabine improves outcome in AML patients

Results of the EORTC and GIMEMA AML-12 Trial appearing in the Journal of Clinical Oncology show that high-dose cytarabine in induction treatment improves outcome of adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia.

Study examines computed tomographic pulmonary angiography for diagnosing blood clots in the lung

New research indicates that a diagnostic strategy using computed tomographic pulmonary angiography (CTPA) may be a safe alternative to conventional lungs scans (known as ventilation-perfusion scans) for excluding the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lung vessels), although CTPA may detect more clots, according to a study in the current issue of JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association.

Eleven Biotherapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company designing and engineering novel and differentiated protein-based biotherapeutics for ocular diseases, announced today the presentation of data for EBI-005, the first IL-1 (Interleukin-1) signaling inhibitor designed for topical ocular administration, at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology 2013 Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington.

Frequent mammography screening reduces the rate of lymph node positivity

In a study of screening mammography-detected breast cancers, patients who had more frequent screening mammography had a significantly lower rate of lymph node positivity—or cancer cells in the lymph nodes—as compared to women who went longer intervals between screening mammography exams.
