Plexxikon announced today the results of a Phase 1 extension study in metastatic colorectal cancer that showed clinical activity of PLX4032 as a single agent in this hard-to-treat patient population. PLX4032 is a novel, oral small molecule targeting an oncogenic BRAF mutation found in over 50 percent of melanomas, about 10 percent of colorectal cancers and eight percent of all solid tumors.

Experts provide suggestions to prevent neurological injuries associated with epidural steroid injections

Epidural steroid injections are commonly used to treat pain; however, they can in rare situations produce life-threatening neurological injuries such as stroke and paralysis. In the Online First edition of February's Anesthesiology, the official medical journal of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, a panel of experts representing 13 national medical organizations provided 17 suggestions aimed at preventing such injuries and improving patient safety.

FDA-approved medication for opioid addiction is increasing except in the youngest group

An analysis of national data on buprenorphine use found that treatment with the FDA-approved medication for opioid addiction is increasing in all age groups except the young (age 15-24 years), in whom use of the medication is decreasing.
