The Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute has set a new standard for U.S. heart transplantation by completing 117 adult heart transplants and two adult heart-lung transplants, for a total of 119 adult heart transplants in a single year. The previous number set in 2005, was 98 adult heart transplants performed in one year.
Researchers at the University of Cambridge have developed a novel method for evaluating the treatment of obesity-related food behavior. In an effort to further scientific understanding of the underlying problem, they have published the first peer-reviewed video of their technique in JoVE, the Journal of Visualized Experiments.
Tsuyama Chuo Hospital in Okayama Prefecture, southwest Japan, has commenced clinical use of RayStation to plan pencil beam scanning treatments at its Proton Beam Cancer Center. On 15 May, the center carried out the world's first patient treatment using RayStation together with Mitsubishi Electric's proton therapy system, with a plan created in RayStation 6.
The monoclonal antibody ramucirumab, when added to second-line docetaxel, significantly improves the overall survival of patients with stage IV non-small-cell lung cancer, show the findings of the REVEL trial.
