In order to recognize and encourage cutting-edge research in key areas of orthopaedic sports medicine, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) will present ten research awards and seven grants during its Annual Meeting, July 11-14 in Chicago, IL.
Researchers at Kanazawa University report in Cell Stem Cell how the Spred1 molecule is involved in hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal. Experiments with mouse models show that under normal conditions, Spred1 acts as a negative regulator, while under diet-induced stress, it protects hematopoietic homeostasis.
Researchers at the University of Leeds have made a breakthrough in understanding a virus which poses one of the greatest global disease threats to wild carnivores including lions, African wild dogs and several types of seal.
News outlets reported on the newest development in government's commitment to help end the outbreak. The White House on Friday sent Congress a request for $30 million to pay for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's efforts to help contain the Ebola outbreak in western Africa.
