The Texas Public Policy Foundation announces the launch of PPACAction.com, a special website devoted to live coverage of next week's U.S. Supreme Court argument in Florida v. HHS. The case, to be taken up by the Court March 26 through 28, involves the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010.
Tripling taxes on cigarettes around the world would reduce the number of smokers by one-third and prevent 200 million premature deaths from lung cancer and other diseases this century, according to a review published today in the New England Journal of Medicine.
A first-of-its-kind study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology finds that music therapy lessened anxiety for women undergoing surgical breast biopsies for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Federal health officials gave two firms - the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology in Chicago, Ill., and the Drummond Group in Austin, Texas, - the power to certify electronic medical record vendors effective immediately, The Hill reports. "As providers move toward mandatory adoption of EHR systems, HHS created an incentive program designed to encourage the transition." Hospitals and doctors can receive payments for achieving "meaningful use," a set of requirements laid out by federal officials.
