Researchers at Plymouth University Peninsula School of Dentistry have received funding of around £150,000 from the Medical Research Council to support a pilot study which aims to go some way towards addressing the national crisis in children's oral health, especially in communities of social deprivation.
Sandrine Pierre, Ph.D., associate scientific director at the Marshall Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, has received a new grant from the National Institutes of Health to further her research on myocardial infarction, known as a heart attack.
Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) recently published Sweat Testing: Sample Collection and Quantitative Chloride Analysis; Approved Guideline—Third Edition (C34-A3). This document addresses appropriate methods of collection and analysis, quality control, and the evaluation and reporting of sweat test results for the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis.
The West African Rotavirus Advisory Board is calling on governments to vaccinate children against rotavirus, IRIN reports. At a recent meeting in Dakar, Senegal, which was "financed by GlaxoSmithKline, makers of one of two rotavirus vaccines" the board issued a document recommending that governments "immediately recognize the magnitude of the rotavirus problem and make vaccination against the virus a priority" (12/8).
A clinical trial has shown that a special chemical makes brain tumours glow pink. This can help neurosurgeons operate easily on them and remove them completely and safely say the researchers. The results of this study were presented at the 2018 NCRI Cancer Conference in Glasgow.
