Hurricanes Katrina and Rita may be responsible for up to half of the stillbirths in the areas hardest hit by the storms, according to a new study co-authored by Ian Breunig, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research (PHSR) and the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Solutions in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science (PPS) at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
For years, biomedical researchers have suspected that a specific set of immune cells are responsible for causing disease in lupus patients, but until now they haven't known for sure one way or the other.
GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK) today announced that it has reached agreement with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to join the USPTO's motion to dismiss its litigation over Final Regulations published in August 2007 (Triantafyllos Tafas and SmithKline Beecham Corporation, SmithKline Beecham PLC and Glaxo Group Limited vs. David J. Kappos and the United States Patent and Trademark Office).
A systematic review of clinical studies involving more than two million patients aged 50 years and older suggests a recently released shingles vaccine was far more successful in preventing the painful condition compared to the older vaccine - but also carried greater risk of side-effects.
