Medtronic, Inc. today announced the publication of data showing that use of its Reveal family of Insertable Cardiac Monitors led to diagnosis and specific treatment for 78 percent (170 of 218) of patients who experienced a recurrent syncopal (fainting) event during the course of the study.
The old adage "use it or lose it" is truer than ever. People who maintain a vigorously active lifestyle as they age gain less weight than people who exercise at more moderate levels, according to a first-of-its-kind study that tracked a large group of runners who kept the same exercise regimen as they grew older.
Funded by the European Union, MoniQA (Monitoring and Quality Assurance in the total food supply chain) involves experts from around the globe collaborating to harmonise worldwide food quality and safety monitoring and control strategies. The project has developed a database of food quality and safety issues and corresponding analytical tools for food production and the supply chain.
Genome-wide scans of families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have revealed new evidence that previously unknown chromosomal abnormalities have a substantial role in the prevalent developmental disorder, according to a report published online Jan. 17th in the American Journal of Human Genetics, a publication of Cell Press.
