The results of the first reported study of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in an animal model for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) presented today at the American Epilepsy Society (AES) 66th Annual Meeting suggests that DBS may have potential as therapy for this common and often difficult to treat form of epilepsy.
Neuroscientists at Technische Universität Dresden discovered a novel, non-invasive imaging-based method to investigate the visual sensory thalamus, an important structure of the human brain and point of origin of visual difficulties in diseases such as dyslexia and glaucoma.
"Governments are failing to fund projects to improve access to toilets and other sanitation services in poor countries because the subject remains 'taboo,' a director at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said on Monday," Reuters reports. "About 1.1 billion people across the world still defecate in the open because they have no toilets, according to the United Nations," Reuters writes.
Wright Medical Group, Inc., a global orthopaedic medical device company, today announced the launch of the ORTHOLOC Polyaxial Locked Plating System for surgical treatment of foot and ankle fractures.
