It is Australia's turn to get a new National Health Performance Authority after the Victorian Government abandoned its opposition to the creation of the body. According to sources in a meeting of federal, state and territory health ministers in Melbourne this week all groups have agreed in principle to the establishment of the authority which will monitor and report on the performance of hospitals and health services.
President Barack Obama's budget proposal on February 13 will make an election-year call for economic fairness with higher taxes on wealthy Americans as part of a $3 trillion-plus deficit reduction plan that he first unveiled last September... Expect domestic spending cuts of around $580 billion over 10 years, going by Obama's September deficit plan.
America's largest, most influential physician group said "it will oppose creation of a government-sponsored insurance plan, which President Obama and many other Democrats see as an essential element of legislation to remake the health care system," the New York Times reports.
Two studies led by the Garvan Institute of Medical Research have revealed that nitrogen-bisphosphonates, drugs commonly prescribed for osteoporosis, reduced the risk of premature mortality by 34% in a cohort of over 6,000 individuals.
Osteoarthritis treatment conducted digitally via an app costs around 25% of what conventional care costs, according to a study from Lund University in Sweden published in the research journal PLOS ONE.
