An international multi-disciplinary research team led by Northwestern Medicine scientists has uncovered a new role for the protein toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in the development of tissue fibrosis, or scarring.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has awarded Wayne State University's School of Social Work a three-year, $1,049,223 grant for researching the factors that facilitate and discourage intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration among middle school and high school youth.
MonoSol Rx, the developers of PharmFilm® technology and a drug delivery company specializing in film pharmaceutical products, in collaboration with APR Applied Pharma Research s.a. of Switzerland and Labtec GmbH of Germany, today announced that its partner, Strativa Pharmaceuticals has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Zuplenz® oral soluble film for the prevention of postoperative, highly and moderately emetogenic cancer chemotherapy-induced, and radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
Diabetes affects around 10% of the population; according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). The disease places a huge financial burden on healthcare systems, and also leads to early death and poor quality of life. However, patients and healthcare professionals will now be able to partner up and manage the illness in better, more effective ways.
Researchers have found that persons who have had a deep brain stimulation device implanted for treatment of Parkinson's disease may have lost their ability to swim. The small study was titled, "Beware of deep water after subthalamic deep brain stimulation," and was published in the latest issue of Neurology this week.
