Researchers have found that children in low-income families experience greater access to preventive medical and dental care under Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) than children covered by private insurance. However, for all types of insurance coverage, access to pediatric specialty care was a challenge.
Saving lives is truly the mission of HealthFREE.org, a South Florida non-profit organization currently working to provide help, hope and healing to those affected by the devastation of the recent hurricanes. In efforts to effectively serve the residents of Puerto Rico, leadership from HealthFREE.org met with Coalition of Hope to discuss how both organizations can collaborate to save lives of fellow Americans on the island.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for persons ages 10-24. And according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), youth suicide rates have nearly tripled from 2007 to 2017.
Although antiretroviral therapy (ART) can reduce the amount of HIV in the blood to an undetectable level in most chronically infected people, it cannot eliminate reservoirs of HIV that persist in latently infected immune cells.
Two particularly notable research presentations at the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Annual Meeting described new approaches to the treatment of "wet" Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), the most common cause of severe vision loss in the western world in people over age 50.
