Children who are bullied in primary and secondary school are nearly twice as likely to be overweight at the age of 18 than non-bullied children, according to a new study by researchers from King's College London.
Differences in the shape and texture of men and women's hearts could potentially explain why their risk of heart disease differs, according to research funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
A key protein, which may be activated to protect nerve cells from damage during heart failure or epileptic seizure, has been found to regulate the transfer of information between nerve cells in the brain. The discovery, made by neuroscientists at the University of Bristol and published in Nature Neuroscience and PNAS, could lead to novel new therapies for stroke and epilepsy.
The recent report by the Health Council of Canada puts Canada in last place among OECD countries for healthcare wait times with major concerns regarding access to care. With only 31 per cent of Canadians getting a same-day or next-day doctor's appointment and 15 per cent of Canadians without a family doctor, Canada's strained healthcare system has reached a breaking point.
Journalists may now register and reserve housing for a scientific conference that news media accounts have termed the "World Series of Science." One of the largest scientific conferences of the year, it is the American Chemical Society (ACS) 243rd National Meeting & Exposition.
