CureDuchenne, a national 501(c)3 dedicated to raising funds and awareness in the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, is kicking off a national fundraiser Pick Your Peak. Outdoor enthusiasts, philanthropists, families of boys with DMD, and anyone excited to get out and climb for a cause will climb the peak of their choice on June 19-20, 2010.
GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. today reported revenues of $651,000 for the quarter ending June 30, 2010, a 162% increase over second quarter 2009. Net loss for the second quarter was $5.1 million, or $0.60 per share, compared to a net loss of $4.3 million and $1.08 per share for the same period last year.
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) announced that California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer has sent a letter to California-based drug company, Gilead Sciences, Inc. urging the company to set an initial price on its latest HIV/AIDS drug combination—which is known as the 'Quad'—that is "…sensitive to ongoing state budget difficulties," and which will also "…provide the means to keep people with HIV/AIDS alive and as healthy as possible."
If a human cell and a bacterial cell met at a speed-dating event, they would never be expected to exchange phone numbers, much less genetic material. In more scientific terms, a direct transfer of DNA has never been recorded from humans to bacteria.
