A permanent cure for HIV infection remains elusive due to the virus's ability to hide away in latent reservoirs. But now, in new research published in print May 3 in the journal Molecular Therapy, scientists at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and the University of Pittsburgh show that they can excise HIV DNA from the genomes of living animals to eliminate further infection.
Some patient subgroups see greater improvement after surgery for herniated spinal discs relative to nonoperative outcomes—notably including married patients whose symptoms are getting worse, reports a study in the January 15, 2012, issue of Spine.
Saving lives is truly the mission of HealthFREE.org, a South Florida non-profit organization currently working to provide help, hope and healing to those affected by the devastation of the recent hurricanes. In efforts to effectively serve the residents of Puerto Rico, leadership from HealthFREE.org met with Coalition of Hope to discuss how both organizations can collaborate to save lives of fellow Americans on the island.
