The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced today that it is awarding $348 million to encourage investigators to explore bold ideas that have the potential to catapult fields forward and speed the translation of research into improved health.
Dutch vaccine development company Mucosis B.V. announced today that it has received an innovation credit line of approximately € 3 million from Agentschap NL, an agency of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. Mucosis will use this loan towards the clinical development of its lead product FluGEM™, an influenza vaccine that can be administered by a simple spray in the nose. The loan will be redeemed only if the FluGEM™ clinical development program is concluded successfully.
The bombs at the Boston Marathon were designed to maim and kill, and they did. Three people died within the first moments of the blast. More than a hundred and seventy people were injured. They had their limbs blown off, vital arteries severed, bones fractured, flesh torn open by shrapnel or scorched by the blasts' heat. Yet it now appears that every one of the wounded alive when rescuers reached them will survive.
Starting in February 2011, Springer will publish a new international, peer-reviewed journal Drug Delivery and Translational Research. Focusing exclusively on translational aspects of drug delivery, the bi-monthly journal will provide a unique forum for publication of high-quality research. It is an official journal of the Controlled Release Society (CRS).
