BioPharmX Corporation, a biotechnology company focused on the development of novel drug delivery products to address unmet needs in large, well-defined and underserved markets, today announced that it has submitted a request for a pre-IND (Investigational New Drug) meeting to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the company's topical antibiotic acne compound currently under development.
In an analysis of outcomes of about 12,000 patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement, death rate after one year was nearly one in four; of those alive at 12 months, almost half had not been rehospitalized and approximately 25 percent had only one hospitalization, according to a study in the March 10 issue of JAMA.
University of Georgia scientists have discovered a new flu-fighting role for a well-known component of the immune system. Kimberly Klonowski, assistant professor of cellular biology in the UGA Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, and her colleagues found that administering a cell-signaling protein known as IL-15 to mice infected with influenza reduces their peak viral load by nearly three times.
