A new survey shows a majority of new and expectant moms have not discussed preterm birth with their healthcare providers, despite the fact that early prenatal care, including discussion about lifestyle habits and medical history, may give babies a better chance of a healthy, full-term birth. This new survey, titled SPEAKing About Preterm Birth, was conducted among moms and healthcare providers including obstetricians/gynecologists and maternal fetal medicine specialists, by the March of Dimes and BabyCenter, and sponsored by Ther-Rx Corporation.
This non-invasive diagnostic method could help detect the disease in its earliest stages with a small urine sample.
Recent advances in gene editing technology, which allows for targeted repair of disease-causing mutations, can be applied to hematopoietic stem cells with the potential to cure a variety of hereditary and congenital diseases.
The Gillard government is being criticized for issuing a women's health policy without announcing more funding for struggling women's services. This is the first national women's health policy in 21 years that claims to ensure women "have access to the right healthcare at the right time".
