Alivio Therapeutics, an affiliate of PureTech Health plc developing therapies to treat inflammatory disorders through targeted disease immunomodulation, today announced a $3.3 million U.S. Department of Defense Technology/Therapeutic Development Award to advance Alivio's product candidate, ALV-107, for the treatment of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome with Hunner's lesions.
A meta-analysis of approximately 80,000 individuals from 32 prospective studies was published in The Lancet on May 1, 2010. The data shows that elevated levels of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), a vascular-specific inflammatory enzyme, are associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease similar in magnitude to that with non-HDL cholesterol or systolic blood pressure.
A team of researchers who have pioneered novel treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been awarded an $11 million, four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to investigate the differences between virtual reality and traditional prolonged exposure therapy.
