The New York City Council's Health Committee is scheduled to review a series of bills designed to curb smoking on April 27. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced several proposals this month, including a plan to raise the base price of a pack of cigarettes to $13, the highest in the nation.
Open enrollment, starting in October for most companies, allows employees to make changes to their benefits for the coming year. It's often the only time during the year that employees can make changes to their health insurance plans, and the passage of the recently enacted healthcare reform means that Americans could be facing more changes to their existing health insurance plans.
Although tumor metastasis causes about 90 percent of cancer deaths, the exact mechanism that allows cancer cells to spread from one part of the body to another is not well understood. One key question is how tumor cells detach from the structural elements that normally hold tissues in place, then reattach themselves in a new site.
