Bayer HealthCare announced today that the European Commission has granted marketing authorization for Xofigo (radium Ra 223 dichloride) solution for injection for the treatment of adults with castration-resistant prostate cancer, symptomatic bone metastases and no known visceral metastases. This decision follows a positive recommendation from the European Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use in September of this year.
The study, published in The Lancet, focused on genetic markers on the Y chromosome — which is present only in male DNA (women have two X chromosomes) — and found that men with a certain genetic variant were 50% more likely to have coronary artery disease than those without it. The increased risk was independent of other contributors to heart disease such as age, weight, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and smoking.
Narcoleptics suffer from bouts of sleepiness and sleep attacks, which impair their ability to function in daily life. But the precise cause of narcolepsy has long eluded scientists, and the cure for the devastating neurological disorder afflicting an estimated three million people worldwide - and one in 3,000 Americans - remains at bay.
According to new research a high level of education delays a decline in memory as people age, but once the decline begins it occurs faster.
