Researchers at Trinity College Dublin have examined the sustainability of different models of the most commonly used oral health product - the toothbrush - to ascertain which is best for the planet and associated human health.
Immunologists and oncologists are harnessing the body's immune system to fight cancers and other diseases with adoptive cell transfer techniques. In a normal immune response, a type of white blood cell known as T cells are instructed by another kind of immune cell called an antigen-presenting cell (APC) to expand their numbers and stay alive.
Tauopathies are a group of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease that are characterized by the deposition of aggregates of the tau protein inside brain cells.
According to the latest report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) hospital admissions have risen significantly up to 16 percent from 2004 to 2009. Admissions in 2008 and 2009 amounted to a whopping 8 million and the report author George Bodilsen felt that multiple factors are responsible for this growing pressure on the nation's hospitals. "The increase in hospital activity is a reflection of the increasing population, the ageing population, and perhaps the increase in chronic diseases in the population as we age," he said.
