A report by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council has revealed that more than 11,000 people contacted some form of infection in Pennsylvania hospitals last year, and nearly 1,800 died from them.
Advanced Accelerator Applications S.A., a Novartis company and leader in nuclear medicine theragnostics, today announced that the first patients have been dosed in two Phase I/II clinical studies of radiolabeled PSMA-R2, a urea-based ligand of Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen, which is commonly expressed on prostate cancer cells.
Dr. Ming-Heng Wu of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, in collaboration with Prof. Chawnshang Chang's laboratory of University of Rochester (UR), United States, have discovered that androgen receptors (AR) can promote hepatitis B virus-induced hepatocarcinogenesis through modulation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) RNA transcription.
A researcher from the University of Birmingham has co-developed a device to significantly improve the maternity aftercare of many new mothers - and the invention could also help lead the way in forensic investigations.
Results from a recent study issued by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration revealed that treatment admissions for prescription painkiller abuse rose 345 percent over a 10 year period extending from 1998 to 2008.
