IT and medical technology company Sectra has been entrusted with delivering the northernmost PACS in the world. The major Norwegian healthcare region, Helse Nord, is set to use Sectra's solution and the eleven hospitals that are included in the region will share patient information and radiology images.
NX Direct, a privately-owned sales and marketing company, announced that they helped host a successful fundraiser at the Tin Roof Cantina to raise funds for men's health awareness. Called the "Stache Bash" and complete with giveaways and mustache karaoke, the event raised over $1,000 in a single evening for the Movember Foundation.
The laboratory of Huda Zoghbi, where the discovery that mutations in the gene MECP2 cause the severe childhood neurological disorder Rett Syndrome was made, has taken yet another step toward unraveling the complex epigenetic functions of this gene, implicated also in cases of autism, bipolar disease and childhood onset schizophrenia. The November 11 issue of Nature reports that removing MECP2 from a small group of neurons that typically make the inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA, recapitulates many symptoms of Rett as well as numerous neuropsychiatric disorders.
Concern that vaccines might cause harm was the most common reason given by parents who choose not to have their children vaccinated for preventable diseases, according to an article in the May issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
Cameron Nowzari, Assistant Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, received $150,000 from the National Science Foundation for a project in which he and his collaborators are developing numerical methods and mathematical models to provide complementary support to the epidemiologists worldwide who are working to understand how COVID-19 spreads.
