Alimera Sciences, Inc.,, a biopharmaceutical company that specializes in the research, development and commercialization of prescription ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, has submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Iluvien®, (flucocinolone acetonide intravitreal insert), its investigational, sustained drug delivery system releasing sub-microgram levels of fluocinolone acetonide for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME).
With major surgery now occurring at a rate of 234 million procedures per year - one for every 25 people - and studies indicating that a significant percentage result in preventable complications and deaths, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched a new safety checklist for surgical teams to use in operating theatres, as part of a major drive to make surgery safer around the world.
Elderly patients (70 years and over) with locally advanced esophageal (E) and esophagogastric junction (EGJ) cancer (located in the stomach and esophagus) should be considered for optimal therapy that has the potential to cure.
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) will host a press teleconference on Thursday, July 22nd, at 1:00 PM Eastern (U.S.A.)/10:00 AM Pacific to urge the United States Congress to immediately pass the HIV/AIDS Saves Lives First Act of 2010.
