Osteotech, Inc., a leader in the emerging field of biologic products for regenerative healing, today announced it is highlighting three procedure-specific MagniFuse(TM) bone grafting products for different spine therapy areas at the North American Spine Society (NASS) 2009 Annual Meeting, taking place November 10th through 14th in San Francisco, California. To date MagniFuse has been used in 40 spinal surgeries in the United States
Researchers at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (IBB-UAB), in collaboration with the biopharmaceutical company SOM Biotech, located in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), have published, in Nature Communications, the results of a drug repositioning study in which they describe a powerful drug, SOM0226 (tolcapone) that could significantly improve the pharmacological treatment of familial transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR).
Breast cancer treatment could be revolutionized with patients offered more accurate diagnoses and better-targeted treatments after a study in which scientists genetically charted the disease. The research found that rather than being a single disease, breast cancer can be classified into 10 distinct types. It also identified several new genes that determine the aggressiveness of the cancer.
GfK Asia releases its Pan Asia optical retailers and consumers preference survey information in line with the 17th Hong Kong Optical Fair, hosted by Hong Kong Trade Development Council. The five key regions surveyed in October 2009 include China, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and Malaysia. The survey shows that 70% of optical retailers indicate business will be better or the same in 2010.
