The drug Gleevec (imatinib mesylate) is well known not only for its effectiveness against chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia, but also for the story behinds its development. Allos Therapeutics, Inc. today announced that the Journal of Clinical Oncology has published data from the Company's pivotal Phase 2 PROPEL study demonstrating clinical activity of FOLOTYN® (pralatrexate injection) in patients with relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL).
Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) have developed a novel technology to test for the presence of thin membrane protrusions called "microtentacles" on breast cancer cells, which can help predict whether a tumor is likely to spread.
A study presented at the American Society of Anesthesiologists 2010 Annual Meeting revealed that use of aspirin before cardiac surgery reduced postoperative cardiocerebral complications, including stroke, myocardial ischemia, heart block and cardiac arrest by more than 33 percent when compared to patients who did not use aspirin.
