Today in Canberra, Tony Abbott has let slip a historic opportunity for health reform. Today the state and federal health ministers met and had Professor John Dwyer and some of the finest minds in health give them health reform proposals.
For years, science has generally considered the phosphorylation of proteins - the insertion of a phosphorous group into a protein that turns it on or off - as perhaps the factor regulating a range of cellular processes from cell metabolism to programmed cell death. Now, scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute have identified the importance of a novel protein-regulating mechanism - called sulfenylation - that is similar to phosphorylation and may, in fact, open up opportunities to develop new types of drugs for diseases such as cancer.
iCo Therapeutics Inc. today announced that the company has entered into a research collaboration agreement with JDRF, the worldwide leader for research to cure, treat, and prevent type 1 diabetes (T1D), to support the previously announced Phase 2 investigator sponsored clinical trial investigating iCo-007 in Diabetic Macular Edema.
My sister's cancer sent me into the medical literature with an insatiable hunger for information. It's this search for answers and 20 years of experience caring for women many of whom bore physical or emotional scars acquired in the aftermath of suspicious or inconclusive mammograms that led me to decide that I could no longer endorse the tests as routine screening measures for me or any other woman
Family carers need to be supported throughout the whole illness of their loved ones as they witness and share much of the experience of the dying person, according to research published on bmj.com today.
