Cell biologists are of two minds about the possible biological effects of mobile phone radiation. In the mid-1990s, studies describing possible pathological effects on tissues bombarded with low-level radio frequencies (RF) were first featured in the popular press and then discredited by scientists.
In a study published yesterday in the journal Neurobiology of Aging, researchers have reported that aged chimpanzees may show similar if not identical brain changes as persons with early Alzheimer's disease. Chimpanzees are the closes linked animals with humans and these findings may help understand the mechanism of development of Alzheimer's disease believe researchers.
Among adults at high risk of liver cancer, those who took low-dose aspirin were less likely to develop the disease or to die from liver-related causes.
Two research studies published today in Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, found markers for measuring the ability of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) to control impulsive movements, which may reveal insights into the neurobiology of ADHD, inform prognosis and guide treatments.
UNIVERSITY of Huddersfield researcher Dr Tsitsi Chituku is taking part in a project that seeks to learn more about the genetic factors that make some women more susceptible to cervical cancer. It was a recent visit to Africa, to carry out a health screening project involving hundreds of women, which helped to shape the emphasis of her research.
