Zimmer Holdings, Inc., a global leader in musculoskeletal care, today announced the launch of the next generation of its Wallis® Posterior Dynamic Stabilization System, the UniWallis™ System, in Europe and Asia Pacific. Since the debut of the Wallis System in 2000, feedback collected from surgeons revealed the need for a device that maintains all of the clinical advantages of the Wallis System, provides improved ease of use and offers a more anatomy-sparing procedure.
Blood-contacting implantable medical devices, such as stents, heart valves, ventricular assist devices, and extracorporeal support systems, as well as vascular grafts and access catheters, are used worldwide to improve patients' lives. However, these devices are prone to failure due to the body's responses at the blood-material interface; clots can form and inflammatory reactions can prevent the device from performing as indicated. Currently, when this occurs, the only solution is to replace the device.
Charity Action on Hearing Loss is welcoming the launch of the Accessible Information Standard, which comes into full force today (August 1).
"Many Americans have a very limited understanding of the basic facts about diabetes, as well as the serious consequences for health that accompany the disease," commented Sue McLaughlin, RD, CDE, President, Health Care & Education, American Diabetes Association, in a media alert. She blames the problem on a combination of factors including denial of the disease and promotion of inaccurate information or myths surrounding diabetes.
Cord Blood America, Inc., said today that its co-founder and CEO, Matthew Schissler, reviewed the reasons for and significant details about its new "Afford-A-Cord" program in an interview with analyst Francis Gaskins.
