Following a review by The Lancet of the medical issues associated with commercial air travel, the European Society of Cardiology has reaffirmed its advice about the risks of venous thromboembolism (VTE), whose risk, according to The Lancet, is increased "up to four-fold" by long-haul flight.
BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are two of the most well studied genes in the cancer field. They are tumor suppressors - mutations in these genes can lead to breast and/or ovarian cancer. Predispositions can be detected in women before they develop cancer.
A novel messenger which alarms nearby cells when the immune system recognizes infections has been uncovered by immunologists from Aarhus University, Denmark. This knowledge will help fighting infections and autoimmune diseases.
The GAVI Alliance on Thursday said an investigation conducted by a GAVI transparency and accountability team and auditors from the Malian government "has found that $563,000 was misused in two of its cash-based projects in Mali, and Malian authorities have agreed to pay it back," Reuters reports.
