After medical marijuana became legal in Massachusetts, cannabis-related poison control calls involving the commonwealth's children and teenagers doubled, according to a public health investigation led by University of Massachusetts Amherst injury prevention researcher Jennifer Whitehill.
A new study involved 202 deceased players of American football players' brains. It was found that Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) could be neuropathologically diagnosed in 177 players. Of the sample of players who developed CTE, 110 of 111 former National Football League players were found to have CTE in their brains. Researchers connected the presence of CTE in the brains of the dead players to the participation in football.
The National Safety Council congratulates the Pennsylvania General Assembly for passage of Senate Bill 314, which makes sending text messages while driving a violation for all drivers. The bill will become law with Gov. Tom Corbett's signature, and the law will go into effect 120 days after it is signed.
