Scientists at Queen's University Belfast have begun work into improving the lives of thousands of Cystic Fibrosis sufferers thanks to the award of a -1.74 million US-Ireland Research and Development Partnership grant.
Bacteria in the gut microbiome drive the formation of cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs), clusters of dilated, thin-walled blood vessels in the brain that can cause stroke and seizures, according to new research published this week in Nature by researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
A pair of studies by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine has identified a molecular pathway - a series of interaction among proteins - involved in the development of diabetes. Furthermore, they have found that a drug already approved for use in humans can regulate the pathway.

"This is the latest start to a flu season in the past 29 years," said Dr. Bresee.
