Kaiser Health News staff writer Mary Agnes Carey and The Wall Street Journal's Janet Adamy discussed the many ways the health overhaul law will affect health care consumers young and old, and especially people with Medicare coverage on NPR's Talk of the Nation yesterday.
Today, the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) is running a full-page ad in the New York Times, continuing its million dollar ad campaign against the New York City Department of Health's hyperbolic "Don't drink yourself fat" PSA campaign. The Center will also continue to run ads in the New York Daily News and New York Post that ask New Yorkers, "What's Next?" and "Big Apple or Big Brother?"
Today marks the one year anniversary of S.A.Y. Detroit's Family Health Clinic, the nation's first free 24-hour clinic for homeless children and their mothers. With a growing homeless population and an increasing number of children without medical coverage, the clinic - which is funded entirely by donations by citizens and businesses - has to date, served more than 1,046 patients during 3,500 visits, marking a successful first year.
Researchers at UTHealth have demonstrated in rats that transplanting genetically modified adult stem cells into an injured spinal cord can help restore the electrical pathways associated with movement. The results are published in the Feb. 24 issue of the Journal of Neuroscience.
GlaxoSmithKline, the maker of popular denture adhesives Poligrip and Super Poligrip, announced today that it will remove zinc from all of its denture adhesive products. The pharmaceutical giant has added the potentially hazardous mineral to its adhesives for decades, despite overwhelming evidence that consuming large quantities of zinc over an extended period of time can cause serious neurological damage.
