Adding vitamin D as a supplement does not appear to lessen the symptoms, or slow the progression, of knee osteoarthritis, according to research presented this week at the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting in Atlanta.
For infants and children with blinding diseases of the cornea, a sophisticated new corneal transplantation technique offers the hope of improving vision while overcoming the technical difficulty and low success rate of traditional penetrating keratoplasty (PK) in children, according to reports in the current issue of the Journal of AAPOS (American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus).
The Adler School of Professional Psychology has received a $25,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support the Annual Conference of the Institute on Social Exclusion. This year's conference, titled "The Social Determinants of Mental Health: from Awareness to Action," will be the first ever in the United States to convene innovative thinkers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds to address this topic, and has already received international interest.
GE Capital, Healthcare Financial Services has provided $31.5 million as part of a $145 million senior secured credit facility for Harden Healthcare, LLC. Harden will use the proceeds of the financing to provide additional growth capital and to refinance its existing debt facilities. GE Capital is the administrative agent for the credit facility. GE Capital Markets served as co-lead arranger and joint bookrunner.
