Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said on The Daily Show Monday that she doesn't know how many people have enrolled in health insurance exchanges, but that "hundreds of thousands" of accounts have been created and that officials will give monthly reports on enrollment.

A reliable way to replicate α-synuclein aggregation on cell membranes in Parkinson's disease patients

The accumulation of α-synuclein, a small, negatively charged protein, in neural cells, is one of the hallmarks of Parkinson's disease. It has been suggested that oligomeric α-synuclein causes membranes to become permeable, or to form channels on the outer cell membrane.

Incorporation of NexACT technology helps reduce dose of Å6 compound for ovarian cancer treatment

NexMed, Inc., a specialty CRO with a pipeline of products based on the NexACT® technology, today announced that results from a pre-clinical study showed significant improvement in the delivery and half life of Å6, a proprietary peptide treatment for ovarian cancer currently in Phase 2 development by Angstrom Pharmaceuticals. Specifically, the incorporation of NexACT® enabled the dose of Å6 to be cut by half, or from twice per day to once per day delivered subcutaneously, while achieving the same level of efficacy in the mouse lung metastasis model.

Researchers prepare synthetic protocells that pump up blood vessels

An international team comprising researchers from the University of Bristol, and Hunan and Central South Universities in China, have prepared biocompatible protocells that generate nitric oxide gas – a known reagent for blood vessel dilation - that when placed inside blood vessels expand the biological tissue.
