"Financial barriers to marriage are a significant issue for many young, working- and middle-class couples as well as for the poor and near-poor," said Pamela Smock, associate director of the U-M Institute for Social Research (ISR) and a contributor to a special issue of the Journal of Marriage and Family on the future of marriage released in Washington today.
Researchers claim that a cream that is often used in a skin condition called eczema may actually make the condition worse. The research conducted at Bath University found that aqueous cream thinned the skin after a few weeks of use. They found that the cream contains a detergent rather than just moisturizers. The team also said that most GPs seemed unaware of official advice not to prescribe the cream as a moisturizer.
Transgenomic, Inc. announced today that its scientists have completed studies employing the company's high-sensitivity cancer mutation assays using two proprietary technologies, Ice COLD-PCR and BLOCker-Sequencing. Results from these studies will be presented at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in Orlando, Florida, April 2-6, 2011.
Mayo Clinic researchers have found that ovariectomy, surgical removal of a woman's ovaries, raises her risk of developing dementia or cognitive impairment. Risk is especially increased if a woman has her ovaries removed at a young age.
Walden University today announced the recipients of six Nurses of the Year scholarships. The scholarships were awarded to nurses who are making a positive difference in the lives of their patients, in their organizations and to the future of nursing.
