Children have been less impacted by COVID-19 caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SAR-CoV-2) than adults. But some children diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 have experienced severe illnesses, including Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C) and respiratory failure; nearly 80% of children with MIS-C become critically ill with a 2 to 4% mortality rate.
A newly published study in the October 2010 issue of The Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA), conducted at New York University's College of Dentistry, concludes that use of a mucoadhesive patch, affixed to the roof of the mouth, provides statistically significant and sustainable improvements in salivary flow rates and subjective moistness for dry mouth sufferers. An estimated 30 million Americans deal with dry mouth, or xerostomia, an uncomfortable oral health condition which can have a detrimental effect on overall oral health.
At the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's 2015 conference (HIMSS15), Elekta will introduce Elekta Healthcare Analytics, a solution for accelerating data analysis to improve clinical, operational and financial decision making.
Scientists and engineers are eager to understand the secret behind bone's lightweight toughness so they can mimic it in the design of new materials, but previous studies have revealed a number of different strength mechanisms at different scales of focus, rather than a single theory.
