A research team at LSU's Pennington Biomedical Research Center has been approved for a five-year, $4.5 million funding award by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, or PCORI, to evaluate two treatments for children who have obesity.
A second-generation experimental anti-obesity and diabetes drug has shown promise in reducing body weight in rodents just as effectively as the predecessor rimonabant while avoiding the risk of psychiatric side effects that led to the withdrawal of rimonabant from the market and stopped further development of other brain-penetrating drugs of its type.
Shawnee County, Kan., District Court Judge Richard Anderson - who permitted Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline (R) to view edited medical records of 90 women and girls who underwent late-term abortions - on Monday filed a response with the state Supreme Court asking that some information about the case be kept confidential, the AP/Kansas City Star reports.
