Among obese older patients with a common type of heart failure, calorie restriction or aerobic exercise training improved their ability to exercise without experiencing shortness of breath, although neither intervention had a significant effect on a measure of quality of life, according to a study in the January 5 issue of JAMA.
Personal Genome Diagnostics, Inc., a provider of advanced cancer genome analysis and testing services, and Human Longevity, Inc., the human health information technology and health care company, today announced that HLI will have access to PGDx's cancer genomics solutions to expand its analysis of cancer genomes, including CancerSelect, PlasmaSelect, CancerXome, METDetect and CancerComplete.
African Americans - especially African American women - have a significantly higher risk of sudden cardiac death during their lifetime than whites, and much of the disparity can be attributed to income and education levels, according to new research in the American Heart Association's journal Circulation.
The announcement by medicines watchdog the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) that exercise should be recommended to people suffering from chronic pain, rather than prescribed painkillers, has been welcomed by rehabilitation science expert at Kingston University and St George's, University of London Professor Mike Hurley.
The World Allergy Organization (WAO) will publish its first Report on the extent of allergy and chronic respiratory diseases worldwide on the 18 June 2008 and has called for immediate collaboration to tackle the current escalation in allergy cases.
