Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. KGaA, the world's largest provider of dialysis products and services, today announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Gambro's worldwide peritoneal dialysis (PD) business. Gambro has decided to prioritize its investments in the hemodialysis field. Mindray Medical International Limited, a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices worldwide, announced today its selected unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2012.
According to an international panel of cancer experts, women at high risk of developing breast cancer should be given preventative drugs. The experts write in the Lancet Oncology adding, drugs such as tamoxifen could reduce the chances of developing breast cancer. They suggest that this would be something similar to prescribing statins to patients at risk of heart disease. But tamoxifen has been linked with womb cancer, blood clots and stroke.
Frequent marijuana use can have a significant negative effect on the brains of teenagers and young adults, including cognitive decline, poor attention and memory, and decreased IQ, according to psychologists discussing public health implications of marijuana legalization at the American Psychological Association's 122nd Annual Convention.
The Senate struck a deal to vote Thursday afternoon on 17 amendments before moving onto final passage of the bill to reauthorize the Food and Drug Administration's user fee programs.
