Pharma Major Lupin Limited announced today that its US subsidiary, Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc., has launched its Metformin HCl ER Tablets, 500 mg and 1000 mg to market a generic equivalent of Santarus Inc.'s Glumetza HCl ER Tablets, 500 mg and 1000 mg.
New and updated quality standards for ingredients used in functional foods and a host of other food products manufactured, sold and consumed every day are included in the newly released seventh edition of the Food Chemicals Codex. Published by the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention, the FCC is an internationally recognized compendium of standards that helps ensure the identity, quality, purity and consistency of food ingredients.
A University of Pittsburgh study sheds new light on the relationship between race, body weight and sexual behavior among adolescent girls. The results suggest that a girl's ethnicity and her actual weight or perception of her weight may play a role in her participation in risky sexual behaviors. The study results are published in the November issue of Pediatrics, now available online.
In a recent DECODED research profile, Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT), details how IDT scientists Kristin Beltz and Dr Scott Rose are collaborating with Dr Brian Taylor's research team at Battelle (Aberdeen, MD, USA) to design and validate a RT-qPCR assay that can detect the Ebola virus in the field.
Abnormalities in the kidneys and their blood vessels occur in at least 25% of healthy individuals, according to a study appearing in an upcoming issue of the Clinical Journal of the American Society Nephrology (CJASN). While most of these conditions are not harmful enough to prevent someone from donating a kidney, future studies are needed to determine their impact on long-term health.
