A multicenter team of researchers led by Barbara Murphy, MD, of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has identified a panel of genes which can help predict whether a transplanted kidney will later develop fibrosis, an injury which can cause the organ to fail. Their results were published in the July 21 edition of Lancet.
The Ensign Group, Inc. announced today that Ensign operating subsidiaries have agreed to acquire nine skilled nursing and assisted living facilities from Sioux City, Iowa-based Careage Management, LLC. The acquisition is expected to become effective in July, 2011.
Trimeris, Inc. ("Trimeris") today announced that in connection with the Agreement and Plan of Merger dated October 2, 2009, as amended, by and among Trimeris, Arigene Co., Ltd. and RTM Acquisition Company ("Arigene" and "Purchaser," respectively) (the "Merger Agreement"), Arigene has requested through counsel that Trimeris consent to an extension of the expiration date of the tender offer for all of Trimeris' outstanding shares of common stock commenced by Arigene and the Purchaser on October 19, 2009. Arigene has requested an extension of the expiration date of the tender offer to January 15, 2010.
Researchers from North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina and Arizona State University have developed an intelligent system for "tuning" powered prosthetic knees, allowing patients to walk comfortably with the prosthetic device in minutes, rather than the hours necessary if the device is tuned by a trained clinical practitioner.
