Reducing antibiotic use in intensive care units by even small amounts can significantly decrease transmission of dangerous multidrug-resistant organisms, according to new research published online today in Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, the journal of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
Intelimedix, a business intelligence company focused on multi-relational data mining and advanced analytics for faster, more accurate decision making, is partnering with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). Representing over 3.7 million customers and handling more than $10 billion in medical claims annually, BCBSNC will initially implement Intelimedix's Tru:Insights employer group reporting tool.
Australia's fist case of a human infected with bacteria from cat fleas has been reported by a Newcastle doctor who says the disease may be more common than the GPs thought. The case study appeared in the Medical Journal of Australia that documents a Victorian family infected with Rickettsia felis after exposure to a kitten infested with fleas. Murdoch University scientists confirmed the presence of R. felis in cat fleas on cats and dogs in WA for the first time in 2006.
