A recent study by researchers from the United Kingdom (UK) revealed that antibody levels associated with protection against reinfection with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are likely to last from 1.5 to 2 years on average and that the protection from severe infection may be present for several years.
The spike protein comprises of two subunits: S1 subunit having the receptor-binding domain (RBD) that helps it to bind to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which is present on the cell surface of the host, and the S2 subunit that helps in the fusion of the cellular membrane and the viral membrane.
Britons are officially three times more likely to die of the incurable lung condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), than in a road accident. Despite this, the disease is so unheard of and underfunded in research doctors still don't know what causes it.
An international research collaboration, involving scientists from the UK, US and Spain, has shed new light on the usefulness of digital contact tracing (DCT) to control the spread of Covid-19.
